The Greengage Summer

We have a greengage tree. Actually, we have two, but they are so close together that if you don't look at the trunks, they look like one. Some years we don't get any fruit at all; others we get a glut. This year is a glut year. We've had loads of windfalls already and as the fall rate was increasing we decided it was time to crop what we could. We got nearly 30lbs of fruit which has all been processed as appropriate, and there is probably three times as much left on the trees but a bit too high to reach.

I think I'll be dreaming about greengages tonight.
