South Queensferry
Took J & V to South Queensferry to see the 3 bridges. This is J capturing V and the very old (1890) rail bridge . I was told its a Brunel bridge but Wikipedia tells me it was designed by English engineers Fowler and Baker. Its about half a mile east of the Forth Road Bridge which opened in 1964 putting the ferry out of business. The queen of Queensferry is St Margaret of Scotland who is believed to have established a ferry at this point for pilgrims on their way north to St Andrews. She died in 1093 showing that the the ferry was in business for a very long time before the road bridge came along. The third bridge is the Queensferry Crossing, a brand new road bridge that is supposed to open on 30 August but the signs up when I was there suggest 4 Sept may be the grand opening day.
PS I have changed yesterdays blip if anyone is interested
