What did I see today...?

The Raid

I'm on a bit of a filmfest at the moment, either in the cinema or on the DVDs!

Yep, both 'The Cabin in the Woods' and 'The Raid' came out on Monday and were finally purchased on Tuesday!

The night started with 'Cabin' and a great dose of meta-horror-comedy goodness, I can't recommend the film enough (in fact, here's my non-spoiler review from last time):
- First off, the writing - it's sharp, witty and incredibly clever.
- Second, the casting - perfect to a note, everyone is brilliant in their role be it comic, serious, bit-part of awesomeness or leading star.
- Third, the music - it was like it was living up to my expectations on purpose!
- Fourth, it's a Whedon/Goddard comedy-horror-action-thriller of brilliance :-D

Again, no trailer, I don't want to spoil it!

'The Raid' could almost be described as the complete opposite of 'Cabin', a low-budget martial arts fuelled fighting extravaganza the plot is simple - bad guy in top of building, twenty elite cops try to get him, it goes horribly, horribly wrong for everyone involved*.

And it was from watching that today's Blip was born - I give you one elite street samurai and thirty floors of DVD hell! Well, the perspective needed a tall tower. I particularly like the silhouetted figure on the top of the stack, that's actually the star of 'The Raid' looking up at the tower he's meant to be going into!

Edited to add - I've been Blipsnapped by Ripitup!

*yes, this does sound a lot like 'Dredd', but this has kicking and more importantly was around first! Both directors have come out and said it's just a coincidence though - an awesome one at that!
