Man on the stairs

This man is on the stairs at Oxburgh. I don't know who he is, but he has a rather 'wooden' expression. !

Reminds me of the nonsense rhyme -
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today,
I wish that man would go away !
