Common Yellow Lichen - Xanthoria parietina

This lichen is commonly seen on seaside rocks but it also thrives on the dead twigs of seaside bushes - here on blackthorn but also on hawthorn.

It gives a welcome yellow/orange patch where otherwise there would be a dark area where the wind and salt spray have killed off some of the growth
