Day 239 Picnic in the Churchyard
Today we met for a family picnic at Avebury to catch up on family gossip and to walk round the standing stones. Early this morning two sensible people, seeing the weather forecast was for unrelieved sunshine, looked at an arial photo of the village and noted that the only decent shade was in the churchyard, so there we went. What a brilliant idea. The church was open and providing tea at £1 a mug - result!
Others followed where we led and soon the churchyard was dotted with picnicking families. After a leisurely lunch we walked through the stones, watching children clambering over them. Thank you to Andrew and Mel for explaining the history of the stone circle and bringing history alive.
A good family day out.
