JHS

on a calvary

Calvaries are plentiful in Brittany, but I had never seen the inscription JHS, or at least I had never paid attention to it.

A few seconds' typing taught me that these three letters (sometimes spelled IHS) are the first letter of Jesus in the Greek alphabet.

On top, as a banner rolled around the cross, you have the more usual INRI (Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth King of the Jews).
