Damsons

Today's the day ............................ to pick

More garden fruit today because Will has started picking the damsons.

Unlike the brambles, we actively encourage the damson tree to go forth and multiply - but it doesn't always listen to us.  Although this area of the Lake District is famous for them, the damson crop is notoriously fickle.  Some years, the branches of trees groan with the weight of the dark purple fruit - and then the next year, there will be absolutely none.  A frost at the wrong time - when the blossom is out - is usually the main culprit.

But this year, it must all have been fine because we have a bumper crop of damsons .............. and blueberries ................. and grapes .......................
