Science investigation with my class today: does the weight of objects change when they are in water?

I think I saw about 10 different spellings of 'upthrust' when I marked their books. Bit of a messy lesson...loads of water everywhere and the clanking of the weights falling on school desks is probably one of the most irritating sounds ever! But hey, at least they were doing stuff rather than copying stuff off the board or something. And they get to use Newton meters which are pretty cool! :)
