Dorking - town of my Birth
Dorking's Cockerel sculpture is 10 years old this year.
The 10 foot high silver landmark was installed in February 2007, it took eight months to construct and is based on a real life Dorking Cockerel named Donald, with a distinctive fifth toe indicative of the breed.
Chickens were introduced to Dorking by the Romans and became a premier breed in the C17, with Dorking famous for breeding them.
In the 10 years it has been there, the sculpture has won many hearts, including mine!
A friend of mine once famously was giving a male friend directions, and told him to look for the roundabout with a 'big Cock' on it, needless to say he couldn't find it!
It stands on a busy roundabout, so my shot is taken on a slow shutter speed, to capture the motion of the traffic whizzing past.
