Fat Mantis

I wanted to try something completely different today. I've been playing around with a number of iPhone apps trying to get my head around layers, blending, and layer masks. What I did was to photograph one of my paintings and then put it through a number of apps that modified its appearance - arriving at the image above.
Its a fascinating process, and although I believe that the above is partially successful, I am sure that I have a long way to go. This business with layers is probably the one major remaining area that I am uncertain of. But it is becoming easier and easier and making more and more sense.
I played around with the picture until something started happening. In this case the appearance of what looked like to be to be a head of a Preying Mantis. I asked my daughter what she thought and she replied that it was to fat for a Mantis, so there was the title. Fat Mantis. A bit of Cubism, a bit of Surrealism, and a bit of Hybrid Abstraction.
I think its easier though, to just go out and take a photo!
I'll put the original photograph of the painting in my blipfolio if anyone is interested. The photograph doesn't show the compete work though but close.
:-))
