Pemberley
Started out this morning with a visit to Lyme Park on the edge of the Peak District but actually in Cheshire.
It was used as the setting for Pemberley in the 1995 TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and most memorable for Mr Darcy emerging from the lake!
We had a nice walk around the park before going into the house and the best thing here was that children and adults alike (extra - love the pink trainers) could dress up in Regency dress and walk around the house and gardens! We didn't but what a fab idea.
We continued through the High Peak and stopped at Tideswell known for it's 'Cathedral of the Peak'. A lovely church and village but of most interest to me was the embroidered 'village map' in four panels in the church, done for the millennium . On evwas showing the typical well dressings of Derbyshire in the centre. The well dressing tradition goes on all over the area and I thought they were usually in May around Whit but we've seen a number of signs advertising them this coming bank holiday weekend. We won't still be here then but maybe we will see some of the preparations.
We are now in the Derbyshire Dales in the White Peak. Another lovely village and all new to us! Great.
