Nashville cowboy boots
We've enjoyed an amazing first day in Nashville. It started with brunch at The diner, then a morning on Broadway popping in and out of the shops in search of cowboy boots for me and don_T. After extensive research we plumped for a 3 for 1 offer. My two pairs can be seen in the extra. don_T's boots are identical to my blue pair.
Lunch was liquid in Nudie's honky tonk bar. We were tempted in by some marvellous fiddle playing by one of the members of Jarett McAlister's band. Much of the entertainment was provided by other tourists: don_T and I stood/sat at a balcony that overlooks the stage and loved watching people dance in and out of the bar, especially those in hen parties.
Then it was back to the hotel to change (into my cowboy boots) before going out for a meat feast dinner and then a show at the Grand Ole Opry. Dinner was also lots of fun, not least because the serving staff took it in turns to jump up to the stage and sing to the diners. We heard one waiter tell a party that he was serving 'I'm sorry, there will be a delay for your drinks because that's the bar tender on stage right now'!
The Grand Ole Opry was an 'experience'. A couple of acts were to our tastes - some blue grass, and a fabulous band called Steel Woods which has us all transfixed with Axe. However, much of the music was 'not our cup of tea', and we had to laugh at the overt sponsorship 'messages' relayed every 20 minutes or so. That we are currently in the 'Buckle of the Bible Belt' was made quite obvious by a couple of singers, including one who made a rather bizarre explanation of Monday's eclipse...
My blip is of the sign that hangs outside the shop where we bought our boots. (There are a couple more photos on don_T's journal entry for today.)
Exercise today: 30 minutes cycling in the hotel fitness room, walking (11,793 steps)
