California Quail
Seen at Waterston House, the HQ of the Scottish Ornithological Society, just outside Aberlady, on route to Greywalls Hotel for my birthday tea (from 11th). T and I knew we hadn't seen one of these before - it was the crest that was the stand-out feature. I have to say that we didn't identify it ourselves, we were lucky that one of the staff was able to look it up for us. We guessed that it might have been an escapee from somewhere local, rather than all the way from California as it was quite tame.
The weather got better as the afternoon/evening progressed and we were able to have afternoon tea outside, as a year ago, this time without any scavenging gulls. Afterwards we did a perambulation of the gardens which were looking splendid.
