On the way to Ullapool
Saturday,
We set off for trip to Ullapool in the morning stopping a few times to take some photos. This group of trees was by one of the lochs. I spotted a sparrow hawk chasing one of the small birds. We managed to avoid most of the rain until we reached Ullapool. Mike went out to the deli to get lunch and got caught in a downpour, he came back looking like a drowned rat. Luckily Mike was wearing a waterproof that kept him dry, mostly.
We sat in the car and ate our lunch and then it brightened up. We drove up to Ardmair Bay and then further North for a quick walk at Knock Crag.
We spotted at the tearoom in Elphin for hot chocolate and shortbread in the shape of a teapot. We watched at least 3 birds of prey hovering, diving and perched in the trees. I was not sure what they were as they were too far away and I did not have the binoculars with me. definitely not buzzards but they were a falcon shape brown and very pale underneath,
Luckily the owners arrived with their binoculars and said they were peregrine falcons. Great to watch them so close.
After fish and chips in Ullapool we went to a gig at The Ceilidh Place. A very enjoyable evening listening to Iain Thomson, The Singing Shepherd from Mull and Marc Duffy from Capercaille who played a wide variety of instruments. Iain lives on the Isle of Mull and has written lots of songs connected to the area and his job. He also performed the song about Calums road on Rassay.
