Backblipped

The third day of the Swanage trip saw us head to Wareham, once again starting off on the train - the line from Swanage to Wareham is a delight.  There are steam trains along part of the line - and beautiful old rolling stock.  Having deposited our bikes in the guard's van, we were directed to take seats in a first class compartment for the journey.  

We spent several hours cycling around the Sitka trail before stopping for a beer at a pub called "The Silent Woman". The pub sign features a headless woman ... it doesn't seem that politically correct nowadays ...!

Wareham itself is a fine old town which still has remnants of its Saxon heritage including many of its original grass bank walls.

Once back in Swanage, we went for a swim in the sea before heading off for a fish and chip supper and the Lifeboat Festival.  The headline act were "The Reptiles" - today's blip.  As you can see they featured a brilliantly charismatic front man who had the crowd in the palm of his hand all night. Their combination of Hi Ho Silver Lining (Jeff Beck), Blockbuster (by the Sweet) and Black Night (by Deed Purple) had to be seen to be believed. All of which was without the national cheese anthem.  You had to be there....
