Work experience - Day 1
Hello Blippers! Hope your all well!
Today was my first day of work experience at Edinburgh Airport, and I spent all of it in the ATC tower. My nana was nice enough to come with me on the bus, which was really overcrowded, on the 30 minute journey to the airport. When we arrived, it took me about 15 minutes to find the entrance to the tower, because there is a lot of work going on that wasn't there before.
I met a man called Alan, who showed me around the lower floors. I briefly met Paul, the guy who basically organised it all, then me and Alan drove round to a security office, where I got a couple of passes.
Although I can't remember exactly everything I did and everyone I met (It was a really long day!) I spent most of it just listening in with headphones, asking questions, stuff like that. I got 1 half hour break, during which me and a woman called Rachel watched come dine with me. There was nothing else on!
The weather was pretty bad, and the wind sounded really loud and strange so high up (57 metres, in case anyone was interested), although the strong winds made for some interesting landings.
A lady called Claire, who I met last time, signed this log book for me, and then I got escorted outside by another lady called Gill. The bus arrived at about 5:20, meaning I'd been at the airport for about 7.5 hours, and the traffic was really bad meaning I didn't get back until 6:15
I think I would be allowed to take a few pictures in the tower, but unfortunately, my camera isn't working at the moment, so for tomorrow at least, it'll be something else.
Sorry this has went on for quite a bit, and I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't read it all! Oh, and if you want to see what the Edinburgh Airport ATC tower looks like, then google it. I don't know how to link with my IPad :)
Have a great week!
Steven :)
