Gentle

Today was a wonderfully gentle but fabulous day. A more leisurely start, with music practice and breakfast not being a rushed affair. We had a lovely girls day, Katie, Aunty Kay and I. Our first destination was a lavender field Kay thought of, when she'd learnt the other day that Katie likes lavender. We pulled up to the field and I realised it was one I'd seen photos of on instagram and had been a little jealous of! We loved it. We spent a happy hour exploring.

We then drove through the beautiful countryside into Kent to visit Chartwell House. We started off with a picnic beside Churchills swimming pool. Kay had taught to spit cherry stones this morning and then encouraged her to do it again at lunchtime. I suspect "I spat cherry stones in Winston Churchills swimming pool" will feature in her writing about the summer holidays when she goes back to school!

After lunch (and cherry spitting...) we had fun exploring with a children's trail that took us round some of Churchills favourite spots, like his butterfly house, his goldfish pond, the beautiful play house he built his daughter, the stunning kitchen gardens. There was time for a little cartwheeling on the front lawn before our tour of the house. I found it really fascinating. After the tour, we walked round the large lake and of course made time for ice cream before we had to head home.

Katie had tea before everyone else tonight, she was bushed and fast asleep by 7.
