Dedicated to Paula...
There are times in life when things happen, both good and bad, happy and sad, up and down and... While watching blips go by today I thought of this photo I took today of two birds staring out into the great unknown. The title was going to be "Empty Nest" because of it is the time of year when young adults leave home for an extended time heading off to college, the Peace Corps, to preach in a far off land, or to just take a year to travel the world while they still can and not be tied down with all the little things in life..
So often when we are young we don't realize the full scope of life.. We are idealist that can change the world and want to be apart of that.. but then life happens.. A dear friend passes away - whether in a car wreck, bad luck (wrong place/time) or off fighting in a foreign land.. and a bit of innocence is lost..
We then "join the work force".. 20, 30, 40 years working at a job.. In America we call that the American dream.. Marriage, a boat, two cars, two kids, baseball, apple pie and Chevrolet.. Many today working two jobs just to make ends meet.. We become happy when some dumb thing is on the television to take us away from reality.. Many of us never make it to retirement.. The don't call it working yourself to death for nothing...
Today I envy those Millennial's.. Those who value living life, not tied to one job forever, willing to bounce around just because and yet I also fear for them.. Where is this world headed? There a very few "defined pension" plans anymore, health care is sky rocketing, people going about their life being mowed down by someone who never learned to live and let live..
So Paula if your still reading this please listen to this song in its entirety. I think it sums up your blog post yesterday well.. Thank you for being a friend..
