Close to home.

Two challenges in one.

First the community challenge of a place near by where you would take a visitor.
So this is the looking across the valley from Tong Lane towards the Moravian village of Fulneck, near Pudsey, Leeds.
It was established in 1744, and is named after the town of Fulnek a town in Moravia, Czech Republic.
Members of the Moravian Church settled here in 1744.
They were descendants of old Bohemian/Czech Unity of Brethren, extinct in Bohemia after 1620 due to forcible re-Catholicisation imposed by the Habsburg emperors.
Within the next few years of settling at Fulneck, housing a school and chapel were built, the last completed in 1748.
Many of the 18th- century buildings are now listed.
It also has one of the longest terraced streets in England.

There is a museum which opens on Saturdays and Wednesdays.  2 pm - 4 pm.
A small tearoom open 10 - 4  Closed Saturday and Monday.

There are a number of footpaths and scenic walks in the area including the Leeds Country Way.

Sir Len Hutton the great Yorkshire and England cricketer was born here 23rd June 1916.

Famous people who attended the school include:
H.H.Asquith,  Prime Minster 1908  - 16.
Richard Oastler, politician and social reformer.
Diana Rigg,  the actress.

On the way back home we would stop off in Tong village, which pre dates the Norman Conquest.
Have a look round St Jame's Church which was rebuilt in the 18th  century, and then have  liquid refreshments at the Greyhound Pub.
It would be a very full day out.
