S.S. Daphne

This memorial is in Victoria park for the 124 workers at Alexander Stevens shipyard who drowned when the Steam Ship Daphne capsized on launch in 1883.

The 'yard is across the Clyde from the park and was one of 300 on the Clyde. Over 25,000 ships have been 'Clyde built' and from 1900 to 1950 over 75% of the worlds tonnage was built here.

My first job after uni was building ships here. 3 coal carriers and a passenger ferry. As a graduate I have to say that a Glasgow Shipyard was some first experience !
