Centre Stage

It was Doors Open Day this weekend and I had planned on getting out and about early (I even set my alarm to make sure I got up early, for a Saturday), unfortunately I didn't sleep much and was too tired so ended up having a long line in instead! I had decided to visit Queens Hall and a couple other venues nearby, unfortunately the traffic was lousy (Saturday afternoon) it took me well over an hour to get to the Queens Hall so that was the only venue I visited.

The Queens Hall was built in 1813 as a church and converted to a 900-capacity music venue which was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1979. For the open day there were guided tours around the hall and backstage which told a bit about the history of the building, how it was converted to it's present form and future plans. They are hoping to raise money to re-develop and modernise it, replacing the current extension to a larger more open area with an additional smaller venue out back.

The picture was taken from the front of the stage with tables and chairs set out for cabaret style seating on the ground floor.

After the tour I was a bit late to visit other venues so went to the pub instead :-)
