Electric!

I have a meeting at Heathrow at 10:30, tomorrow, so I needed to travel down to London, today. On a whim, I asked the Minx whether she fancied coming along and, happily, she did!

Having seen the miniMinx off on her holidays with the Minx's mum, we took the train down to Euston from Preston and checked into our hotel on Euston Street: The Wesley (would recommend). From there, we walked to Paddington Basin to eat at KuPP, which the Minx had decided might be a good and interesting place to dine and she was right.

And after that, we walked to the Electric Cinema on Portobello Road. The last time I was here was, God knows, the best part of twenty years ago. I'd come with my brother, our friend Nick, and maybe a couple of other people, to see one of the films in the interminable 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy. What I remember most is the combination of frequently utilising the bar in the cinema and the fact that the film was so long that we had to run for the tube afterwards, with no time for a dash to the toilets first. I can feel it now.

This evening was less fraught. We arrived in time to enjoy a drink in the Electric Diner beforehand and then went through to the sumptuous cinema. Lord, it's an amazing place and better than I remembered, There are seats and footrests and wine chillers and blanket boxes ALL AT YOUR SEAT as well as lamps and even beds down the front. Plus, you can get hot dogs that have been cooked fresh next door as well as the aforementioned bar and pic 'n' mix.

The film we went to see was called 'Atomic Blonde', which I would wholeheartedly recommend, certainly to anyone in their fifties who has been drinking most of the afternoon, dined on Nordic cuisine, had fab hot dog and who intends to drink a bottle of wine and consume a tub of pic 'n' mix during the film and who prefers 'Léon' to 'Lord Of The Rings'.
