Cactus Flower Shining in the Sun

I have been watching this cactus for over a month. Today is the first day I have seen a flower blooming. It is the only day that it will survive, so I had to make it my blip for today. You can see that there are many more blooms to come.

I was on my way to the lake to see about capturing some dragonflies in flight. What was I thinking? They are much smaller than a hummingbird and we all know how well I have been with them. There was a rather large dragon taunting me, but I finally decided that it was just not going to happen and moved on.

I stumbled across the black-crowned night heron. He was hanging out at the edge of the lake. I was so focused on the dragons, I almost missed him. 

I am grateful for the many photos to choose from today. It was a very fruitful outing.
