Blueberry season...

Dear Diary,

It is blueberry season here in Maine.  My late husband and I use to go picking wild blueberries up on the mountain.  We would always wear our bear bells because we would have competition for the small berries.  The bears are fattening up now, preparing for their long winter nap, but the bells would warn them of our presence and they would stay away.

I haven't gone wild blueberrying for over 10 years but friends have high bush berries, like these.  They are much bigger than the wild ones and although quite good not as sweet as the wild ones in my opinion.  Maine, like other food producing areas of the country, is suffering from Trump's ill conceived deportation scheme.  It is feared here that many berries will never get picked because migrant labor is down considerably and few Americans are willing to do the backbreaking work.  It is a policy that will end up hurting farmers and causing increased prices for the rest of us but don't get me started...
