Life through the lens...

The Druids Temple.

During the time of agricultural depression, and high unemployment, in about 1800, William Danny of Swinton Park, hired local men to construct a moderately large scale replica of Stonehenge.
They were paid a full shilling a day.
The result is a folly of national reputation.
He was less successful in hiring a silent Druidic hermit to fulfill a 7 year contract, though several tried, for a promised annuity.

Our walk today from the tiny village of Healey, near Masham, took us to this little known folly in the woods, which is where we stopped for lunch.
Such an interesting place, but wouldn't like to be there on my own at night!

A lovely warm/ hot summers day. If anything a bit too hot for walking. We are never satisfied are we!
Beautiful countryside, and very clear so we had wonderful views over to the moors covered in heather.
As usual finished off with drinks at a lovely pub. The Black Swan , Fearby. Was nice to sit outside in the sunshine.

Another night when we should sleep well.

Hope you have all enjoyed the weekend too.
