Long delays

Going met me from work and we headed to the train station to I down to see Rah and the little ones. We got there super early which meant when we it on the train and realised they didn't do free first class train wine, I had time to run back to M&S. It was only once I was back on the train that I realised it wasn't a screw cap!

5 minutes away from the station the train stopped. After a little while they announced that the train in front had caused the electricity to flip off, they were going to turn it back on and we'd hopefully soon be on our way. After a longer wait (but chance to get a coffee and buy wine) we were told the trains pantograph(?) AKA it's shoe had been damaged by bird strike and we'd not be going anywhere soon. They might take us back to the station or we might stay where we were.

In discussing parts of a train, G drew on his wrist looked like crying eyes so I turned it in to a sad face. It had a flip side happy face too though.

Over two hits later and we were finally on our way. There were more delays at Berwick where there were no station staff so the train manager had to go and explain who was and wasn't allowed on the train. At Newcastle (nearly 4 hours late by this point) we were told we'd be merging with another train but our half would be closed so we'd have to move on to the next one.

Unfortunately at Newcastle there is only one platform long enough to accommodate the train that we were about to become so two other trains got to go in to the station before us. We were happily waiting, chatting to the train manager who stayed in good humour throughout when a man threatened to pull the emergency door release if any more trains were allowed past us. I had to stifle my giggles.

Eventually made it to Rah's house around 1am when our train had been due in at 8:50pm. I was just really glad I'd taken some train snacks. Exhausted and ready for bed.
