1940's Days

Saturday
1940's Days is an event organized by the Cincinnati Museum Center, but during the period of renovations at the Museum Center's beautiful art-deco style Union Terminal building, it is being held at Lunken Airport. Lunken Airport, which opened in 1925, was Cincinnati's airline airport until 1947, when it was supplanted by the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky International Airport after flooding from the Ohio River and the introduction of larger aircraft that needed longer runways. It now serves private aircraft and the fleets of local corporations.
There were several vintage aircraft, a wide range of beautiful classic cars, a couple of bands with occasional singers, stalls selling vintage clothing etc, and a number of people were dressed for the part too. It was a gorgeous day, sunny and hot, but not too hot, and without the usual overbearing humidity, so it made for a great afternoon. When we got back, we had a cold drink, then headed out to the Little Miami trail to get our daily exercise. We started at Mathers Mill and did a total of 17 miles today, then later treated ourselves to a fairly healthy dinner out at Bonefish Grill - also relatively cheap since we had a coupon for buy 1 get one free!
