Crystal Palace Subway
It was a very dreich day, but we made the most of the day. Last weekend, I spotted an exciting opportunity on twitter and acted on it. The Friends of Crystal Palace Subway asked people to message them to book a place on a rare opening of the subway. So I did and today was the day. The subway is one of the last surviving parts of the Crystal Palace, but due to a myriad of reasons, it is not open to the public. The Friends have great plans for it and I wish them all the best for getting the go-ahead. It really is a wonderful place - the vaulted ceilings and colourful brickwork are fantastic. Imagine what it must have been like at the time! A huge thanks to all the enthusiastic volunteers for making the opening possible.
After that rare treat, we caught the bus to the Brixton Ritzy to watch Killing Them Softly, which ended too soon (I felt the story could have been meatier). The characters were great and the cinematography was unusual - some very effective slow-motion and innovative drug haze scenes. The humour was also welcome.
