I met this old Collie on the road ....
In 1964 I was in a flat in Aberdeen
with two other folk.
One Sunday morning
we were all desperate for a smoke
(just tobacco)
and they were both broke
but I had two shillings
and Jim croaked
(he had a sore throat),
(the other fellow was Norwegian)
"I'll go."
He was gone for hours.
When he came back, bedraggled
(which was, it is true, how he presented normally),
smeared all around his mouth
was chocolate.
Chocolate, I knew, had in the past
inclined Jim towards disloyalty.
I said: "Where's the tobacco?"
He said: "The streets are full of Cats and Dogs."
