Nanou in Anjou

Rural life

I'm sorry about this quite crude picture but as it's part of French culture, I had to blip it.
We have here in Anjou (north-west of France) a very specific game, called "la boule de fort", which is being played indoors on a curvilinear synthetic surface, with a wooden ball that isn't spherical (why do it simple when you can make it complicated?) and that has been ballasted on one side so that its path along the track looks like a very slow zigzag or the walk of a drunkard, which sometimes goes well with the playing of course but that's another story. The ground is very fragile and players have to wear slippers to be allowed to walk on it. The origins are still mysterious nowadays but one assumes that Plantagenet kings imported this game from England and that it settled in Anjou.
For those interested, here's a link to better further technical explanations and drawings into which you mathematician blippers will be delighted to dive, although they're written in French (mathematical language being universal like my teachers always taught me). Another link to some pictures of our local circle and a few "mugs".
In order to raise funds for the ground maintenance and the purchase of drinks for the quite unavoidable taproom, the responsible members organize twice a year a sort of banquet for the whole village to take part in.
Hence the unfortunate suckling pig above. And it all ends like this if you know what I am refering to.

Ps: I've been told that an equivalent "boule" game could be found in England and Australia, so if anyone knows anything about it, please let me know (and I'll blip a nice bunch of flowers for you!)
