Vegan Whirled
I love working at home for the day. It gives you a chance to move effortlessly between your work persona and your other interests. Today for instance I took a break whilst my coffee was brewing and made these cinnamon whirls (with added sultanas and glazed with jam).
Now the debate is are they vegan? I made them with jus-roll dough which has no egg or dairy but says "may contain" etc ... so I emailed them and got a very quick response explaining (as I expected) that dairy products are in use elsewhere in the factory, so ...
Since going vegan ten weeks ago I've discovered it is not as simple as I thought (I never knew honey wasn't considered vegan for instance) and there are a range of views from the extreme to the purist, the practical to the flexible (you should listen to the debate about eggs from a pet hen - not that I would eat eggs again).
Anyway I will go along with the just-rol cinnamon whirls although I also have a beef (or its vegan equivalent) with them for their use of palm oil. They admitted they didn't know whether it was from sustainable sources or not so I shall cut them some slack then go back and ask again in a few months. Point is, being vegan for me is about ethical behaviour on both animal welfare grounds and for environmental considerations. But I've only just started so ...
Also had delicious vegan pesto with some linguini at lunchtime. I love this new lifestyle. And had four cases of alcohol free beer delivered as well (not that I am giving up the booze completely - just taking it easy). The Dry Drinker does a lot of vegan beer so that's good ... Don't want to be whirled on non vegan alcohol-free booze ...
