When

the green-fingered L. came to stay at the end of June, we went for a stroll round the Tank Quarry. She showed us how to pick a cutting from the buddleia (i before e except after buddl) which grows rampantly amongst the granite blocks, to the pleasure of butterflies. There used to be several in the garden, routinely covered in red admirals 30 years ago - where are they now?

Anyway, her cutting has thrived in a little pot in the greenhouse and now has a corner for itself, behind the greenhouse. I rather fear it will thrive and require some controlling. A cousin has established itself in a crevice in a brick wall, growing quickly to a couple of metres in height.
