Big pit

A deep excavation beside the old tobacco factory. The latter is in the process of being re-built on the inside and is likely to become some kind of multi-purpose cultural centre. I believe there is an old Roman cistern inside. I hope that is made viewable once the building re-opens.

Meanwhile I've heard that this pit is intended to become the home of the municipal archive. There must be an awful lot of archives to fill it. I'll try to get a photo that shows the full extent of the pit when I can. My guess would have been that it's going to be an extension to the adjacent underground carpark. They can't be separated by more than a couple of metres.
