Borders Fields
I left Oxford early and was at the Kendal services by 10.30 - more or less. Then I took the Borders' road - the A7. I was remarkably free of traffic and I made good time, managing to avoid the Police Scotland speed camera van pulled up in a lay-by.
I dawdled a bit towards the end - there is a little single track road that mirrors the A7 after Galashiels which gives lovely views of the valley and fields beyond. This field of barley was the strangest colour as it shifted from green to golden.
The news from Oxford was not so good and Mum didn't get to make the transfer back to her residential home. Blood tests now suggest a UTI she is on a course of antibiotics and high up in the John Radcliffe building amongst the hub-bub of the transfer of the ward. This seems to have gone well. A is in attendance.
Edinburgh was looking pretty dreich when I got back but I'll go with that rather than the heatwave that is scorching Italy to dust. A Puglian nurse on the ward reported yesterday that it was 42C in his village and Florence is recording 40+C temps. That is really impossible. Add to this the worst drought in 60 years and I guess I should be out getting drenched at every opportunity.
