Temptation
Some people like to go rambling for the exercise.
Some people like to go along for the good company.
Me? No such pretence: where's the nearest bakery?
Wednesday's walk with Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Ramblers was a linear route along the cycle path NCN 73 from Kilmarnock to Irvine.
It started, for me, with a short drive to Cumbernauld and then a bus into Glasgow, the bus station being our official meeting place for the day. There was actually quite a good turnout (16 of us) given the unpromising weather and the less-than-scenic route of the walk.
We took the express bus down to Kilmarnock and then dispersed for a 30-minute pre-walk coffee break, which is where I saw the "famous Kilmarnock pies". Resisting temptation, I thought that, perhaps, eating one would not be an appropriate way to prepare to lead a 15-16km Ramblers walk.
The weather was warm but overcast for much of the walk but the rain started in earnest when we were about an hour away from our destination. Ach well, such are the joys of Rambling in Scotland.
On arrival in Irvine we found another selection of coffee shops and, as we dried off on the outside, enjoyed some of the local bakery delights on the inside. No pies though!
Three bus journeys later, we were back in Cumbernauld.
