a lifetime burning

Replacement

As you will have gathered, if you've read what has gone before, I managed to drop the little Sony RX100 pictured above, whilst on my recent road trip to Scotland with Incredibish.

The Sony is very robust and had managed to survive similar rough treatment on many occasions before, although it had begun to look quite battered as a result.  Sadly this time the camera landed on its lens system and no longer works at all.  This particular cat's nine lives have been squandered by yours truly.

While the Sony was a great little camera its tiny (and very portable) size came with a few drawbacks.  In the main it works brilliantly but changing things requires a lot of digging around in menu structures.  So I've taken the opportunity to move on to the Fuji X100, which as you can see is still in pristine condition at present.  The Fuji is clearly well made, but its bigger and heavier and, as a result I doubt it would survive even one drop of the sort that the Sony endured. So I shall have to be much more careful with it!

We are in the process of having our hall stairs and landing decorated at the moment, in preparation for the laying of a new floor.  The previous owners of the house had carpeted the hall with a lovely pale carpet.  Sadly, no matter how careful we are, or how much we encourage the taking off of shoes, a pale carpet in the hall is just doomed to end up looking rather grubby.  As a result, we are having hard flooring instead and the cameras are sitting on one of the samples in this shot.

I rather hope the shop doesn't want the sample back, I can see it making a useful backdrop for future blips when the weather is as wild and wet as it has been today :-)
