TRUSS ROD TROUBLE

The truss rod lives under the fingerboard of a guitar to compensate for the tension of the strings which wants to bend the neck up. Give the truss rod a tweak & the neck straightens down!

In the 38 years that I've been repairing instruments, I've had to replace half a dozen truss rods  - it's a bugger to do - means removing the fingerboard which is fraught with difficulties.

In the last two weeks I've had two! Wait for a bus for ages & suddenly here are three!

Here is CC routing out the slot on the Taylor neck - success - the red job on the right is the new truss rod.

On the old Hofner ( Paul McCartney) bass, the fingerboard got trashed - the truss rod got fixed!

Swings & roundabouts!
