Day 12
Well it was a different day today. Before we'd even had breakfast we were off on the Flam railway to Myrdal. It was really strange to be on a train going uphill! As with every where here there were some lovely views but we also had the most surreal experience of the trip so far. At one of the stops everyone gets off to look at a spectacular waterfall. We did this on the way up and on the way down. However on the way down all of a sudden there was music playing and a Norwegian folk song ensued. Not only that there was a girl dressed up dancing and miming to the song. Think about a cross between the sirens in Brother Where Art Thou and the Sound of Music! I loved it. After our breakfast on return we had a wander round the village of Flam. I was looking at a pond where some seagulls were and thought they're making an affair racket when I looked at a grassy bit on the rocks and there was what looked like a lama but could have been a sheep/goat with a long neck scrambling around. In the afternoon I knew we were getting the boat to Bergen but I didn't realise we could sit outside. I did for some of the time and then saw something that got into my top 3 experiences of the trip coming just behind crossing the Arctic Circle and seeing the bear. I saw an amazing double rainbow. I've never seen such a brightly coloured one before. After a late dinner at the hotel its off to bed ready for a day's exploring tomorrow.
