Welcome back to The Piece Hall!
The Piece Hall has proudly stood in Halifax since 1779, however it has been closed since January 2014 as it fell into a state of disrepair. Today, on Yorkshire Day, it was time for it to reopen! They have spent 20 million pounds on completely transforming The Piece Hall - the grassy slopes and uneven cobbles are now a huge concrete square punctuated with steps, waterfalls, lights and benches. Each little shop has been renovated and a new, small scale, museum has been added to provide information about the transformation, and the history. It was absolutely packed too which was great to see. I ran out of time to go and explore the brand new library and square chapel, but will definitely make a return visit to do just that.
It is a little bit sad to see that only around 40% of the shops are filled with new, and returning, business ventures...
My extra shows the spectacular, apocalyptic rain that joined in the fun!!
