What a day, what an event and what a result for Team GB! We attended both sessions at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park's Stadium today (back-blipped) and enjoyed both the fantastic competition, big venue atmosphere and simply being part of the crowd supporting the athletes (see extra)! At 280,000 tickets sold, that's more than the seven previous world championships combined, something which has prompted a call for the championships to return to London in 2019 and every time thereafter.
Highlights included appearances from Polly Maton (long-jump), Steve Morris (men's 5k), Mickey Bushell (men's 100m) and from the sidelines supporting the channel 4 commentating team, Jonnie Peacock as well as participation from the crowd, featuring dance cam and kiss cam - the opportunity to exhibit yourselves on the big screens, chosen at random (we were sadly missed)!
Today's pic is of Samantha Kinghorn, the gold medal winning athlete who at the young age of 14, broke her back through snow and ice falling from a building on her family's farm in Berwickshire. The fact that she and so many of her contemporaries have triumphed in the face of adversity is a lesson for us all.
