Splash of Light

I saw a photo on a website yesterday with a bigger splash of light than this one. I decided to try it, to see if I might like it.  I am not particularly fond of this one, and if you have suggestions other than a wider aperture to give more light to the tree, I would like to read them.  The aperture change didn't do anything positive in another shot I took of this scene.
