Iceberg

Our first near encounter with ice on a very gloomy day. However the storm had passed and conditions were benign.

This berg has calved from a glacier further up the fjord - maybe the one we are making our way towards. There is about 7x as much ice beneath the water.

This is relatively young ice. The older ice is highly compressed and with little trapped air takes on a deep blue colour.

We also found plenty of sea ice - frozen saltwater - forming lower and flatter ice floes. Too much of this will make progress by kayak dangerous or impossible.........
