Hanging Dragon At Panshanger

So pleased that I took the van to the Wildlife Festival at Panshanger Park. I had to drive a rutted track through the woods and if I had taken my daughter's lowered S2000 I would have been in all sorts of trouble.

I usually try to avoid crowds but I got on quite well. I loved seeing a rescued pipistrelle bat, I didn't realise how tiny they are. I took a pic of the Puddingstone gin that is infused with Himalayan balsam. Shame I wasn't offered a taste. I went to an interesting talk about pike by George Horne from the Environment Agency and asked him to gesture again how big one of the biggest fish he has found was for the camera. That raised some laughs. :)

I'd taken a snack and a drink with me as usual but I had time to kill before the dragon and damsel walk so queued for a Lebanese lamburger. It was delicious. Shame I had to listen to a woman moaning throughout. I felt very sorry for her husband.

My pic is of Roy Woodward holding a black tailed skimmer for us to see. He explained how they catch their prey on the wing and the hooks on their legs help them to hang onto it. He caught quite a few dragons and damsels on our walk and when he had shown them to us put them in the hands of children. I loved seeing the wonder on their faces.

Today's poem is The Sword of Surprise by GK Chesterton. http://www.gkc.org.uk/gkc/books/suprise.html

"We are perishing for want of wonder" wrote GKC.
