A Fraction In Three Quarters, Aylesford
The series of shots I took today are from the site of what used to be Aylesford Newsprint. I've probably mentioned before that I worked there many a moon ago when it was called Reeds.
There is a long, skinny path between chainlink fences that runs from the Aylesford end to New Hythe end - it's probably nearly a mile long and from this viewpoint you can see it's industrial vastness. Years ago it was a hulking, noisy beast pumping out smoke, noise and light populated, at it's zenith, by a workforce of thousands.
Now it is in it's last death throes as the whole site is being demolished to make way, eventually, for I'm sure you can guess, yet more housing. As I walked along the path today the silence was disturbed every few minutes by a gutteral, deep groan as metal was torn from the buildings by machinery eating it's way into the fabricated structures. It's so strange that something that seemed so vast and almost alive and humming will disappear completely, lost in a fog of memories.
The first extra shot had such a strong echo of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells when I saw it, maybe I was seeing a kind of music in the landscape.
The last extra shot is a play on the idea of an RGB image, I thought the colours instantly stood out.
