Offerings to Pele

The lava flow that started June 27, 2014 stopped at the Pahoa transfer station, a community recycling area with trash tip and beverage container rebate center. 

Grateful offerings to Pele, mythic goddess of lava, had been accumulating as the lava pushed slowly to shopping area, pharmacy and other service providers.  The lava stopped late in 2014.  Droves of tourists and more than a few news reporters arrived to see the point where the lava stopped.
