Aye, aye Captain!

Shower dodging is still the order of the day on the island of Islay.

Under grey clouds we ventured out on the tandem after breakfast in the direction of Port Charlotte. We had hoped to visit the Bruichladdich distillery, but the tours in the middle of the day were cancelled due to a staffing shortage. Instead, we amused ourselves in the Museum of Islay Life, and then the Islay Natural History Trust Nature Centre. We also helped out a fellow cyclist with a broken saddle bolt.

For lunch we ordered soup in Yan's Kitchen. It was nice enough, but our meal (with canned drinks at £2.50 each!) was ludicrously over-priced. The menu at the nearby Port Charlotte Hotel - the only other option - was even more expensive. We get the impression that Islay mainly attracts tourists that are a bit more 'up-market' than us.

We spent this evening at the Lochside Inn in Bowmore. Here the Captain of our tandem enjoyed a wee dram of Caol Ila, as blipped.

The extra is of Port Charlotte in the sunshine between the showers.

Exercise today: 22 miles of tandem riding.
