Mind the Gap
There is currently a rather interesting photographic exhibition at Central Salford Railway Station.
Promoted by Church Action on Poverty and undertaken by the St Phillips Church camera club, it's a project focussing on the changing area, and the widening inequalities which local people perceive as new people move in, buying and renting new property at prices which long-standing residents (often in social housing) cannot afford. Club members did not want to use the terminology "them and us", thus "mind the gap". As it says in the free paper which comes with the exhibition, they live in hope of a a world where inequalities reduce and not increase. Well - here here to that.
The methodology behind the project was, I gathered, for the Club to walk 10 minutes from the church to various places taking photos to highlight what they see as the stark differences emerging. 10 minutes walk includes not only Salford but also Manchester - the cities are very close together. For example, in the blip photo the building on the left is in Salford, that on the right in Manchester.
