Sea fort

Fort d’Ambleteuse is a sea fort in the village of Ambleteuse, Pas-de-Calais. It was built at the end of the 17th century, on the orders of Louis XIV, to defend the port in the estuary of the Slack. It was later used by Napoleon and by German occupying forces. 

A wet and windy early morning soon gave way to a sunny and warm day. We wandered the coast from Boulogne back to Calais, revisiting places we knew and finding new ones. Lunch on the way. Back in Calais some shopping was done and then in the evening we walked down to the harbour and ate at our favourite restaurant - Au Côte D’Argent. As wonderful as ever - superb food, beautifully presented; lovely service and reasonable prices. I don’t know how they do it, but it is certainly worth coming here for it. 

(Strange how guilty one feels now in France. We think maybe we should have badges saying - We Voted to Remain - or the equivalent in French of course!! I shall give up my European passport very, very reluctantly.)
