Summer certainly did shine for Edinburgh Sick Kids
One of the most moving and heartwarming stories for the Kiltwalk in 2012 was of 3 year old Summer Wroniecki who was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in September 2011.
When Summer was diagnosed, the care and support that she received from Edinburgh Sick Kids inspired her parents Chris and Karen to organise family and friends into a Kiltwalk team.
On the day Team Summer had over 30 decked out in their Summer Kiltwalk t-shirts and took part in the Hampden to Loch Lomond Kiltwalk, raising £32,000, with Sick Kids nominated to receive 50%.
The Sick Kids Friends Foundation was set up in 1992 to support the work of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh. The Hospital receives over 100,000 children through its doors each year from all over the East of Scotland.
Each year they raise around £1.5 million to help children and families at the hospital. There work is funded through donations from the public, companies, Trusts and Foundations and organisations who wish to help us to make the Sick Kids even better.
Happily Summer is now in remission, however her everlasting will be that due to Team Summers involvement, Edinburgh Sick Kids were invited to be a core partner of the new Edinburgh Kiltwalk.
